Senior Technical Officer – WASH in Health Facilities

About the role

The Senior Technical Officer – WASH in Health Facilities will provide technical implementation support for water, sanitation and hygiene interventions in healthcare settings across Mozambique. Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor – WASH, the role works closely with the Ministry of Health and other partners to strengthen WASH services.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement, monitor and institutionalize WASH priorities in health facilities in collaboration with national and provincial health authorities.
• Lead WASH assessments using tools such as WASH‑FIT and develop costed improvement plans.
• Provide technical leadership for water safety, sanitation, hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, healthcare waste management and infection prevention.
• Integrate WASH messages into MNCH services, mobile brigades, vaccination campaigns and emergency preparedness.
• Support outbreak response activities, including rapid risk assessments and continuity of essential WASH services.
• Develop and deliver training, mentorship and supportive supervision for health‑facility staff.

Required profile

• Strong technical knowledge of WASH in healthcare facilities, including water safety, sanitation, hand hygiene and waste management.
• Experience with WASH‑FIT or similar performance assessment tools.
• Understanding of infection prevention, IPC and global health security linkages.
• Ability to work with government ministries, partners and community health teams.
