Finance Assistant

About the role

The Finance Assistant will support UNICEF's finance operations in Mozambique, focusing on VAT refund processing, Direct Cash Transfers, invoice handling, advances, and financial documentation. Based in Maputo, the role works under the Finance Officer/Specialist and collaborates with the Finance and Administrative Unit to ensure timely, compliant, and audit‑ready financial processes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit VAT refund claims within the three‑month deadline, organizing invoices and supporting documents.
• Follow up with Revenue Authorities on outstanding refunds and provide regular status updates.
• Coordinate with programme sections and suppliers to resolve missing documentation and compliance issues.
• Register Direct Cash Transfers (DCTs) and invoices in the finance application and support automated finance tools.
• Manage UNV advance processing, including documentation, reconciliation, and clearance.
• Provide general administrative support, maintain accurate filing and archiving, and ensure all financial records are audit‑ready.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in finance, accounting, administration, invoice processing, VAT documentation, or related support functions at a national or international level.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
• Fluent in English and Portuguese.
• Experience with UN or other international development organisations is an asset.
