Head of Tax

About the role

The Head of Tax is a full‑time, on‑site senior position based in Maputo, Mozambique. You will lead the organisation’s tax strategy, ensure compliance across all jurisdictions and manage tax‑related risk.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute tax planning initiatives aligned with business objectives.
• Review, prepare and file corporate tax returns, ensuring timely payment of all obligations.
• Monitor legislative changes and advise leadership on tax implications of strategic decisions.
• Supervise external tax advisors and maintain effective relationships with tax authorities.
• Design and implement tax policies, controls and documentation to support accurate reporting.
• Support internal and external audits, providing necessary tax information and analysis.

Required profile

• University degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field.
• Professional certification such as CPA, Chartered Accountant or specialised tax qualification is an advantage.
• Proven senior‑level experience in corporate tax planning, compliance and risk management, preferably within a multinational or advisory environment.
• Strong analytical abilities and experience interpreting local and international tax legislation, including transfer pricing, VAT and withholding tax.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex tax matters to non‑specialists.
• High ethical standards and commitment to inclusive workplace practices.
• Fluency in Portuguese and strong working proficiency in English are highly beneficial.
