HSE Officer – LNG Project in Afungi, Mozambique

About the role

The role supports the implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements across the LNG construction site in Afungi, Mozambique. You will work closely with supervisors, workers and subcontractors to identify hazards, promote safe practices and ensure compliance with project HSE procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily site inspections, identify unsafe conditions and follow up on corrective actions.
• Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings in Portuguese.
• Verify permits, controls and precautions are in place before work starts.
• Monitor construction activities such as lifting operations, work at height, excavations, hot work and vehicle movements.
• Intervene to stop work when immediate danger is identified and escalate concerns.
• Report incidents, near‑misses and environmental events and support investigations.

Required profile

• Fluent in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
• Previous HSE experience on construction sites with practical knowledge of hazards and control measures.
• Relevant qualification or recognised training in occupational health and safety.
• Experience conducting inspections, toolbox talks and risk assessments.
• Ability to challenge unsafe practices professionally and work with multicultural teams.
