Individual Consultancy – Water Supply and WASH in Institutions (Zambezia Province)

About the role

UNICEF Mozambique is seeking an experienced consultant to provide technical assistance and field‑level support for water supply and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) interventions in schools, health facilities and other public institutions across Zambezia Province.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical guidance and operational support for the design, construction and supervision of borehole drilling, water supply systems and institutional sanitation works.
• Ensure quality assurance of all infrastructure components in line with UNICEF WASH standards.
• Coordinate with government agencies, partners and local contractors to facilitate smooth implementation.
• Develop and maintain monitoring tools, track progress, and document results for reporting.
• Provide on‑site troubleshooting and capacity‑building for local teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, water engineering, hydrogeology or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in WASH programmes, including at least 3 years supervising borehole drilling and water‑supply/institutional sanitation construction.
• Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written); knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
• Experience working with government entities and development partners, preferably in Zambezia Province.
