IT Software Developer – National Consultant (Maputo, Mozambique)

About the role
UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to join its IT team in Maputo for a six‑month, office‑based assignment. The consultant will be responsible for implementing approved functional and technical enhancements, developing and maintaining software components, and ensuring the stability, security, and quality of mission‑critical systems.
Key responsibilities
- Implement functional and technical enhancements as defined in the approved specifications.
- Develop, customize, and maintain Java‑based software components.
- Execute technical testing, identify and correct defects, and support functional testing activities.
- Assist with the deployment of solutions and ensure proper functioning in production environments.
- Maintain technical quality, stability, and security of all developed functionalities.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience delivering at least one enterprise‑grade, mission‑critical information system with distributed transactions, fault tolerance, and high availability.
- Experience with Java development, Enterprise Architect (or similar modeling tool), and data‑modeling techniques.
- Strong knowledge of UML, BPMN, use‑case modeling, and sequence diagrams.
- Hands‑on experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese.
- Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and traditional Waterfall approaches.
- OCUP 2 (OMG Certified UML Professional) certification is preferred.
- Microsoft, Oracle, or AWS certifications in systems analysis and integration are desirable.
