Legal Specialist – Gender Equality & GBV Programs

About the role

Jhpiego Mozambique is looking for a Legal Specialist to provide expert legal and policy guidance for programmes that address gender equality, gender‑based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, and sexual harassment. The role ensures compliance with national and international legal frameworks while supporting the development of policies and legislative initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all projects comply with relevant Mozambican and international laws and regulations.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with programme implementation.
• Provide legal advice on policy development, regulatory compliance, and government relations.
• Support dispute resolution, manage claims, and coordinate with external counsel when litigation arises.
• Coordinate with internal teams, external legal counsel, and regulatory bodies to align project activities with legal requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related discipline.
• At least eight years of professional experience in Mozambique, focusing on legislative and policy development related to gender and gender‑based violence, or adjudication of GBV cases.
• Strong knowledge of Mozambican national and international legal frameworks addressing violence against women, gender inequality, and the protection of women’s and children’s rights.
• Experience in GBV prevention and response programming, including survivor‑centred approaches and ethical data management.
