Senior Finance Officer – Field Operations

About the role

The Senior Finance Officer supports the Country Program’s financial management systems, ensuring compliance with CRS accounting standards, GAAP, donor regulations, and local laws. The role consolidates financial processes, provides technical guidance to field staff, and strengthens internal controls across projects.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate supporting documentation before processing transactions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper authorizations.
• Maintain and process financial data in SunSystems, record transactions, and analyze accounts to detect irregularities.
• Monitor disbursement and receipt schedules, alert staff of due payments, and ensure timely financial resource management.
• Evaluate sub‑recipient financial management, provide capacity‑building support, and ensure compliance with policies.
• Prepare periodic and ad‑hoc financial reports, perform variance analyses, and support decision‑making.
• Perform treasury duties such as cash payments, receipts, and cash forecasting while maintaining segregation of duties.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent qualification (CPA/ACCA preferred).
• Minimum five years of experience in an INGO, local NGO, or financial/banking institution.
• Proficiency in English and Portuguese.
• Willingness to travel up to 50 % of the time for field assignments.
• Supervisory responsibility for finance staff.

Required skills

• SunSystems financial accounting package (or similar reporting software).
• Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Web conferencing applications.
