Senior Technical Officer - WASH in Health Facilities

About the role

FHI 360 is seeking qualified local candidates for a Senior Technical Officer (STO) - WASH in Health Facilities, based in Maputo, Mozambique. The position provides technical implementation support for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions in healthcare facilities and priority public health settings under the WASH and Global Health Security components of the EpiC program. It reports to the Senior Technical Advisor - WASH.

Key responsibilities

• Work with MISAU, provincial and district health authorities and health facilities to plan, implement, monitor and institutionalize WASH priorities, covering water supply, water safety, sanitation, hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, healthcare waste management and hygiene facilities.
• Lead WASH assessments using nationally approved instruments such as WASH-FIT and turn findings into prioritized, costed, time-bound improvement plans.
• Support integration of WASH and hygiene practices into maternal, newborn and child health services, mobile brigades, vaccination campaigns and other community health activities, and develop WASH promotion materials.
• Take part in WASH readiness assessments, outbreak investigations and response, and contribute to WASH preparedness plans, SOPs and technical guidance.
• Provide on-site or remote technical support during public health emergencies, including rapid risk assessments and continuity of essential WASH services.
• Deliver training, mentorship and supportive supervision to health workers and technical staff, and conduct field visits to monitor implementation.
• Support workplans, indicators, activity trackers and technical reports, and coordinate with stakeholders and WASH maintenance teams on equipment needs.

Required profile

• Strong technical knowledge of WASH in healthcare facilities, including water safety, sanitation, hand hygiene, environmental cleaning and healthcare waste management.
• Practical understanding of WASH-FIT and other WASH performance assessment approaches.
• Knowledge of WASH requirements for infection prevention and control and outbreak preparedness, especially cholera and other waterborne and epidemic-prone diseases.
• Ability to provide practical WASH support during emergency operations and outbreaks.
