Team Leader - Sanitation Service Expert

About the role

The Team Leader – Sanitation Service Expert will head a multidisciplinary team delivering technical assistance for large‑scale urban water and sanitation projects. The role requires strong project management, institutional expertise, and the ability to mentor client staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of experts on urban sanitation programmes.
• Act as project manager for multi‑stakeholder, multi‑donor initiatives, ensuring delivery of complex technical assistance.
• Oversee the rehabilitation or construction of major urban sanitation systems with budgets exceeding €10 million.
• Provide on‑the‑job training and mentoring to client personnel.
• Collaborate with international financial institutions, particularly AFD, and manage donor relationships.

Required profile

• University or engineering degree equivalent to MSc/ME.
• Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including at least 10 years in a team‑leadership role.
• At least 10 years of experience in urban sanitation projects.
• Proven track record on technical assistance contracts of €1 million+ or multiple long‑term expert missions.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English; French is a plus.
• Experience in Mozambique or the surrounding region is advantageous.
