Waste Management Officer (Site & DUAT)

About the role

The Waste Management Officer will oversee the activities of the waste management contractor at the Afungi site, ensuring compliance with contractual, procedural and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control contractor activities related to waste segregation, classification, collection, labeling, storage and transfer for various waste streams.
• Inspect waste generation points, storage areas, containers, skips, vehicles and equipment for compliance with operational and environmental requirements.
• Verify waste manifests, transfer notes and traceability records, and provide photographic evidence of non‑conformities.
• Conduct routine environmental inspections, collect field data and prepare daily and periodic reports.
• Deliver toolbox talks and awareness briefings on waste segregation and HSE best practices.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or related field.
• Professional experience in waste management or water/wastewater operations, preferably in industrial or construction environments.
• Knowledge of environmental permitting, waste classification and HSE standards.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a multicultural team.
• Mozambican nationality and willingness to work on a rotational schedule (four weeks on, four weeks off).
