Well Planning Specialist

About the role

Sasol is recruiting a Well Planning Specialist in Temane, Mozambique, to contribute to well planning, design and programming and to provide planning support during the execution of Sasol rig and rigless campaigns. The role sits within the Integrated Gas & Ekandustria operating model entity.

Key responsibilities

• Rig campaigns: prepare the field basis of well design (drilling, wellhead, Christmas tree, cementing, fluids, completions, well testing, well lifecycle) with Subsurface Well Services, Surface Facilities and Early Civils
• Compile the Well Operations Manual and give technical input on tenders for equipment and services
• Prepare FR2, FR3, FR4, FR5 submissions and specify LLIs for all wells
• Take part in mobilisation planning, run or support well operations, act as Contract Holder and manage supplier performance
• Close out campaigns with EOWRs and AARs capturing lessons learned
• Rigless campaigns: review shut-in wells for rigless workovers and P&As, compile technical scope and assist in tendering and awarding rigless solutions
• Protect environment, health and safety; select equipment to company standards; provide engineering support during operations
• Maintain well delivery project plans, monitor performance and service delivery, and prepare the final well report with performance and lessons learned analysis
• Coordinate workshops and milestone meetings, manage well documentation and data, and support the tender process including scope of work and technical evaluation of tenders

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate (M&S)
• Minimum 5 years of experience across drilling, completion, well testing, well integrity and well operations
• Upstream petroleum industry experience; well engineering experience essential
• Experience in drilling, completions, testing, workovers and rigless operations, and in remote, developing African countries
• Experience with geographically dispersed teams and challenging logistics

Required skills

• Shell Round II or equivalent (e.g. RPG Well Engineering Competence programme)
• IWCF Level 4 certification in drilling or intervention, IWCF Level 5 certification
• SPE membership highly desirable
