District Technical Officer – IPC/WASH in Health Facilities

About the role

The District Technical Officer – IPC/WASH provides day‑to‑day technical support to health facilities in priority districts of Zambézia Province, strengthening infection prevention and control (IPC) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices as part of the EpiC Global Health Security Project.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of IPC and WASH interventions in priority health facilities.
• Assist facilities in establishing and operationalising IPC committees and WASH structures.
• Identify gaps, develop improvement plans and monitor corrective actions.
• Conduct routine supportive supervision visits and provide on‑site technical guidance.
• Collect, verify and report IPC/WASH data, maintaining accurate district‑level records.
• Provide coaching, mentorship and practical orientation to facility staff and community stakeholders.
• Support outbreak preparedness by strengthening facility IPC/WASH readiness and responding to emergencies.
• Coordinate with district health authorities, facility management and project teams, ensuring effective communication and documentation.

Required profile

• Good knowledge of infection prevention and control principles in health facilities.
• Understanding of WASH requirements in healthcare settings, including water supply, sanitation, hygiene and waste management.
• Familiarity with district health systems, quality improvement and supportive supervision approaches.
• Ability to conduct facility assessments, analyse data and produce accurate reports.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in Portuguese; working knowledge of English is an advantage.
• Valid motorcycle driving licence and ability to travel independently within the district.

Required skills

• Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid motorcycle driving licence for field travel.
