Portuguese/Brazilian Emergency Site Medical Officer – Remote Mozambique

About the role

International SOS is seeking experienced Portuguese‑ or Brazilian‑trained emergency physicians to join a multidisciplinary team supporting a large remote industrial project in Afungi, Northern Mozambique. The role combines emergency department practice, pre‑hospital care, austere site medicine and medical evacuation coordination within a robust clinical governance framework.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior emergency assessment, treatment, stabilization and evacuation support for a diverse workforce in a remote operational setting.
• Lead 24/7 emergency response teams, act as on‑call physician during rotation cycles and coordinate medical evacuations and transfers.
• Participate in clinical governance, incident review, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Deliver education and simulation‑based training for onsite healthcare personnel.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration in country of origin and a minimum of 5 years post‑graduate clinical experience.
• Current practice in an emergency department and willingness to continue ER practice during off‑rotations.
• Strong background in emergency medicine, rural/remote or pre‑hospital medicine, occupational health or related fields.

Required skills

• Current ALS/ACLS certification (PALS and trauma qualifications advantageous).
• Point‑of‑care ultrasound experience (FAST/POCUS).
• Ability to perform clinical decision‑making for complex, high‑risk cases.
