QA/QC Welding Specialist

About the role

Brunel is seeking a QA/QC Welding Specialist to join a leading operator on a major LNG project in Afungi, Mozambique. The role is a 12‑month contract with a 28/28 on‑site schedule, offering a competitive net daily rate in USD.

Key responsibilities

• Review and comment on contractors' welding quality plans, ITPs, WPS, PQRs and WQRs.
• Witness and verify welder qualification tests, ensuring only qualified welders perform work.
• Monitor implementation of qualified WPS and adherence to all welding parameters.
• Coordinate and oversee NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT), interpret results and ensure proper documentation.
• Ensure traceability of welding consumables, materials and weld joints per project and code requirements.
• Resolve welding‑related TQs and NCRs, track defect trends and recommend mitigations.
• Liaise with NDT, piping, mechanical and construction teams to improve QA/QC effectiveness.
• Compile daily, weekly and monthly welding discipline reports.
• Promote HSE compliance with emphasis on safe welding practices.
• Verify correct welding inspection workforce levels are maintained by contractors.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or equivalent with post‑qualification in QA/QC, inspection, welding or metallurgical discipline.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in welding QA/QC, preferably on large‑scale oil & gas or LNG projects.
• At least 5 years in welding inspection and QA/QC roles on major projects.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI, AWS) or CSWIP 3.1/3.2 (preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of welding codes: ASME IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, API 1104.
• Fluent English (written and verbal); Portuguese or French an advantage.
