Senior Technical Advisor, Tobacco Control – Eastern & Central Africa

About the role

Vital Strategies is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor to lead tobacco‑control efforts across the Eastern and Central Africa region. Based remotely in Mozambique, you will act as the primary liaison with governments, NGOs, and grantees, supporting the Tobacco Control Accelerator Fund’s mission to implement best‑practice policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and policy advice to governments and partner organisations in Mozambique, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Guinea‑Bissau.
• Oversee grant implementation, monitor progress, and ensure alignment with fund objectives.
• Facilitate collaboration between Vital Strategies, regional stakeholders, and grantees.
• Develop and disseminate evidence‑based policy recommendations and communication materials.
• Represent the organisation in regional meetings and advocacy events.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in public‑health policy, tobacco control, and government relations.
• Deep understanding of African governmental systems, especially in the target countries.
• Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Senior‑level expertise with a track record of influencing policy change.
