Senior Technical Officer – WASH in Health Facilities

About the role

The Senior Technical Officer – WASH in Health Facilities will provide technical implementation support for water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions in Mozambican healthcare facilities. Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor – WASH, the role works closely with the Ministry of Health, provincial and district authorities, and implementing partners to strengthen WASH services and integrate them into routine health services and emergency preparedness.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement, monitor and institutionalize WASH priorities in health facilities, including water safety, sanitation, hand hygiene, environmental cleaning and healthcare waste management.
• Lead WASH assessments using tools such as WASH‑FIT, translate findings into costed improvement plans, and support their implementation at national, provincial and facility levels.
• Integrate WASH messages and practices into maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) services, mobile brigades, vaccination campaigns and outbreak response activities.
• Develop and deliver training, mentorship and supportive supervision for health‑facility staff on WASH standards and quality‑improvement processes.

Required profile

• Strong technical knowledge of WASH in healthcare facilities, including water safety, sanitation, hand hygiene, environmental cleaning and waste management.
• Experience working with government health ministries, public‑health institutions and implementing partners in low‑resource settings.
• Proven ability to conduct assessments, develop improvement plans and provide technical support during public‑health emergencies.
