Waste Management Officer – Camps (m/f)

About the role

The Waste Management Officer will oversee daily waste contractor activities across assigned camp zones, ensuring compliance with contracts, procedures and environmental standards. Reporting to the Facilities Manager and Waste Management Coordinator, the role involves field inspections, documentation and coordination with site personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control waste contractor operations, verifying collection frequency, routing, crew competence, PPE, vehicle condition and load security.
• Identify non‑conformities, halt unsafe activities, report incidents and support corrective‑action closure.
• Inspect waste segregation, labeling, storage and classification for organic, mixed, metal, construction and hazardous streams.
• Conduct routine inspections of bins, skips, containers and hazardous zones, ensuring proper signage, condition and spill‑kit availability.
• Document field evidence with photographs, track waste movements, verify manifests and submit daily zone reports.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or related field.
• Field experience in waste management or water‑wastewater operations, preferably on industrial or construction sites.
• Basic understanding of environmental permits, waste classification and wastewater treatment principles.
• Good communication skills in English (Portuguese is an asset) and ability to work in a remote, multicultural environment.
