AGRI Commodities Supervisor

About the role

SGS Mozambique is hiring an AGRI Commodities Supervisor based in Maputo, reporting to the AGRI Business Manager. The supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the AGRI inspector at the site, supports the AGRI team in applying quality, health, safety and environmental practices, and ensures the best possible service to clients.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and supervise daily AGRI inspection activities, including loading and unloading of cargo on ships, trucks, railcars and tanks, and monitor packing and unpacking of containerized cargo.
• Provide technical guidance to operational personnel on inspection methods, sampling, testing requirements, cargo monitoring, reporting and service delivery.
• Allocate inspectors, samplers, vehicles and other resources, and ensure cargo samples are collected for laboratory analysis per client instructions and SGS SOPs.
• Make sure inspectors, samplers and field staff follow SGS SOPs, work instructions and client requirements, and develop and issue work instructions for contracts and projects.
• Monitor SOPs and work instructions in the field, check scales and thermometers before use, and review and validate field and inspection reports.
• Ensure timely inspections, sampling, weighing, stock monitoring, warehouse surveys and loading/discharge supervision, and report abnormal situations to the Coordinator/Manager.
• Conduct pre-operation briefings, toolbox talks, coaching and on-the-job training, and promote quality, hygiene and safety standards.
• Coordinate with clients, port operators, warehouses and transporters, manage consumable stock, maintain equipment and escalate pest infestation risks and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• Honours degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Logistics, Chemistry or equivalent.
• 5 years of experience in a similar position.
• Familiarity with agri-commodities, hazards and safety practices.
• Knowledge of pest control management is an advantage.

Required skills

• Health and safety knowledge, interpersonal and leadership skills, stakeholder relationships.
• Portuguese and English proficiency.
• Finance-for-non-finance knowledge and ability to work under pressure.
• Proficiency in various computer software.
