Senior Contracts Engineer

About the role

A 12-month renewable contract for a Senior Contracts Engineer based in Maputo, Mozambique, within a major project-focused environment. The role supports contract strategy, tendering, negotiation, contract administration, claims evaluation and close-out. It suits professionals with strong contracts and procurement expertise, experience with standard forms such as FIDIC, and the ability to handle complex commercial and contractual matters.

Key responsibilities

• Support contract strategy, tendering, negotiation and contract administration
• Evaluate and manage contractor claims, amendments and contract renewals
• Manage contract execution follow-up and contract close-out
• Support call for tender activities, define evaluation criteria and manage tender documentation
• Assess and mitigate contractual risk
• Propose contracting and procurement strategy aligned to project requirements
• Support and train newly recruited contracts and procurement personnel

Required profile

• Master's degree or diploma in a relevant discipline
• 10-15 years of professional experience, including at least 2 years in the technical contracts domain
• Experience in contracts and procurement within a project or operations environment
• Experience in contract and sub-contract administration
• Exposure to bid analysis, negotiation, contract execution follow-up and close-out
• Preferred: engineering education and international experience

Required skills

• Advanced contracts and procurement technical competency
• Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, including FIDIC and bespoke models
• Claims evaluation and change order preparation
• Strong negotiation, planning, organisation, coordination and problem-solving
• Good written and verbal English
• Advanced certification in contracts and procurement tools preferred
