Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) Operator

About the role

The VTS Operator will support safe, orderly and efficient vessel movements within the port, its approaches and anchorages, providing traffic management, navigational assistance and operational coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control vessel traffic using VHF, AIS, radar, CCTV and VTS systems, ensuring compliance with port rules and maritime regulations.
• Provide vessels with weather, tidal and sea‑state information, navigational warnings and coordinate arrivals, departures and berth movements.
• Maintain operational logs, traffic records and the Port Management Information System.
• Initiate emergency notifications, support marine emergency response and monitor activities affecting the marine environment.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science or related field, with a Deck Department background.
• Fluency in English (IELTS 5.5 or higher) and Mozambican nationality.
• Successful completion of IALA VTS V‑103 training.
• Previous experience in vessel traffic management, port operations or watch‑keeping is an asset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AIS, radar and marine communication systems.
• Operation of VHF radio and VTS simulation tools.
• Strong situational awareness and decision‑making in maritime environments.
